Leblanc model 345 BBb contra-bass clarinet -- repair after extensive damage
Another 'photo-travelogue'; a sadly damaged contra is put back together.
This 'school-horn' contra arrived at the workshop highly damaged and sporting some very bad 'dad-repair'. This model 345 (low C version) is not terrible common, and notoriously challenging to set up correctly.
When I received it the body tubes were held together with a block of cork wrapped with electrical tape. Dad fail.
Broken braces were silver-soldered back together, lead-soldered back into place, and then the mechanism (sadly, very poorly maintained) was put back into adjustment, step by step by step. Where pads were worn out or destroyed by flame, I replaced them with white Roo pads.
The 'nice' (Hurra, we're done!) photos are at the bottom. Scroll down, scroll down!
